Returning Larch to full capacity is the right move, says Orcutt

Legislators from Southwest Washington reacted positively to an announcement made today by the state Department of Corrections that Larch Correction Center will remain open and will be brought up to full capacity.  Instead of closing Larch, the decision was made to close McNeil Island Corrections Center by April 1.

Rep. Ed Orcutt, R-Kalama, has been working with other Southwest Washington legislators in an effort to keep Larch open.  He released this statement:

“We’re very pleased with today’s announcement from the Department of Corrections. Closing McNeil Island and bringing Larch back up to full capacity is the right thing to do. Our analysis showed this would bring the greatest cost savings and we’re glad the department recognized this and made the right decision.

“This is a win for Southwest Washington and was a true bipartisan effort. Southwest Washington lawmakers from both parties worked together to protect Larch – actions which helped lead DOC to this decision.”
