Statement from Rep. Ed Orcutt on the House Democrats’ effort to throw out voter-approved Initiative 1053
18th District lawmaker is lead House Republican on tax and finance issues
“Voters have said over and over that they want a two-thirds majority vote of the Legislature to raise taxes. It's a clear message that the majority party in the House simply doesn't get. They continue to focus on tax increases instead of reforms at the state level. This approach takes us away from responsive, effective state government and represents the blueprint for business as usual in Olympia.
“This is one more effort to give Olympia bureaucrats priority over those for whom they are supposed to be working for — the taxpayer — and after those taxpayers have been so very clear so many times: don't punish us because you don't know how to budget effectively.”
