Capital gains income tax is unnecessary, unconstitutional, Republican leaders tell media

Senate and House Republican leaders address a proposed state income tax on capital gains, responding to reporters' questions on Senate Bill 5096 at a virtual media availability.

Legislators also discussed the state moving to a Phase 3 stage of reopening from pandemic restrictions and whether each of them would receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Additionally, questions were answered about the state's operating budget, the extension of an ongoing eviction moratorium and whether Democrats are working with Republicans on addressing a recent state Supreme Court decision legalizing the possession of drugs. Sens. John Braun and Ann Rivers and Reps. J.T. Wilcox and Ed Orcutt met with media members at the event.
