Toutle Lake Jr/Sr High School student pages in Washington State House of Representatives

Layla Laufmann paged in the Washington State House of Representatives February 13-17. The Toutle Lake Jr/Sr High School student was sponsored by Rep. Ed Orcutt of the 20th District.

Layla paged during the sixth week of the 2023 legislative session. She assisted the Washington State House of Representatives with duties on the chamber floor, made deliveries on the Capitol Campus, and supported member offices. Layla also attended Page School where he learned more about the legislative process.

“It was great to have Layla page and to be able to show her some aspects of how the Legislature works,” said Orcutt, R-Kalama. “She did a great job helping us here at the Capitol and it was great to be able to visit with her, as well.”

Pages work a 40-hour week, earn a stipend of $50 a day, and can earn up to 20 hours of community service.

To serve as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives, students must be at least 14 years of age and have not reached their 17th birthday. The Washington State Legislature is making a one-time exception this year. The week of April 2-7 will be designated for students who are 17-18 years old and were unable to previously participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
